PEER is the future of EEG research. This 5-in-1 collection of iOS-based research tools is designed for use by neuroscience researchers who want a cost-effective solution that can record and export electroencephalography (EEG) data from the Muse™ headband (www.choosemuse.com). Its lightweight setup allows researchers to easily conduct research outside of a laboratory setting.

PEER includes four unique, customizable modes that can induce and record Event-Related Potentials (ERPs), which are electrophysiological responses of the brain to external stimuli. By gathering ERP data, researchers can make a wide variety of inferences about the functioning of the human brain.

The four modes included with the initial version of PEER correspond to research designs that will be familiar to neuroscience researchers:

· Passive Oddball
· One Response Oddball
· Two Response Oddball
· Go-No-Go

The suite also contains a raw data recording mode that provides an efficient, reliable tool for capturing EEG data from research subjects. This mode gives researchers valuable flexibility to use the system for a wide variety of experimental designs. Furthermore, PEER is expandable and will feature additional modes available as in-app purchases.

The system is simple to use and does not require an elaborate technical setup. You simply place the Muse™ headband on your subject’s head, open a Bluetooth connection with the iOS device running PEER, and you can almost immediately start collecting data.

PEER was developed by a team that includes Dr. Olav Krigolson of the University of Victoria, a leading researcher in the field who is already regularly using PEER in the field to pursue his own agenda in mobile EEG research. In short, PEER is the ideal solution for serious neuroscience researchers who want to be able to collect data in a much faster and more cost-effective manner. But it is also for anyone else who is interested in collecting brainwave data for archival or analytical purposes… or even just for fun!
